Created in the Lodi Appellation, “Vintner’s Toast” is a celebration of my homeland. This art sculpture has all that I love about the wine from here: rich color, smooth blends, and a spicey note. Each sculpture includes a raw steel stand that is individually welded to artfully display the sculpture. The steel stand will develop surface rust over time creating an artful juxtaposition between the stand and the glossy surface of the glass. Vintner’s Toast measures 18″ wide by 8.5″ tall. You can’t live in the Lodi Appellation and avoid the build up of anticipation for the grape harvest. It starts at the beginning of summer, as the grapes begin to take shape on the vine. As harvest nears, passers by can see the fruit visible from the road as they drive past mile after mile of vineyards. In Fall, just as the summer heat is at its peak, wine making fever takes over. It’s harvest time. The annual festival is on and hundreds of wineries hold grape stomp events in which adventurous souls step into the vat and stomp the juice from grapes with bare feet. This bowl hails from the Lodi Appellation – an area that is world-renown for its wine. The reclaimed glass is steeped in deep grape purple pigments and finished in a variegated metal foil. 9″ Diameter
Named for the growing region of wine grapes from which this piece was made, Lodi Appellation features purple and violet with small hints of cobalt blue.
