I’m happy to announce that my work has been invited to a a show, “Capturing Light,” at the Cabarrus Arts Council.
The Cabarrus Arts Council was founded in 1980 in response to the North Carolina Arts Council’s plan to establish a local arts council in every county. Today the arts council runs the Davis Theatre and The Galleries. It also conducts one of North Carolina’s largest art-in-education programs, supports arts organizations and artists through grants and workshops and serves as a catalyst and consultant for public and corporate art.
The Cabarrus Arts Council is located in the picturesque 1876 courthouse in downtown Concord, North Carolina.
The Light Reliquary
The show will include a few of my vessels and several of my wearable art pieces. In addition, I have created a new type of work entitled, “Light Reliquary” specifically for this show. This multi-media piece incorporates mirror, pre-cast glass, metal leaf, cast resin and epoxy.
A reliquary is a container for holy relics. As I thought about the show, “Capturing Light,” I could think of nothing more holy than light itself. The reliquary captures light inside the solid object through the use of mirrors and metallics. As the object is moved (or as the viewer moves around the object) the light contained within the Reliquary bounces and flickers. This piece is an advancement of my other work: the piece is fully textural on all sides, including the bottom.
