Cabernet Crush, 20″ diameter, reclaimed glass, pigment & variegated copper foil
I live in rural California, just south east of Sacramento and smack in the center of real wine country. I’m in the Lodi Appellation, which is bound by the cites of Sloughhouse, Elk Grove, Lodi and Farmington. The federal government has recognized seven distinct appellations here and I happen to live and create glass within the boundaries of Borden Ranch.
It’s crush time now, and despite California’s worst drought, it’s been a good season. Tractors are rolling and trucks are hauling luscious grapes to the wineries. Farmers and wine makers are happy; the festivals and parties have begun. It’s fall in the valley. It’s party-time.
I’ve named this piece Cabernet Crush. At its center, it’s wine red, which is trimmed in a golden toned variegated copper. It measures 20″ diameter and is a substantial bit of eye candy appropriate in any environment with an appreciation for artisan, hand made, down-to-earth values. Here are some detail views:
