The process was a delight. First, I requested photographs of some of the other art and furniture already collected for the space. Once I had a sense of the scale and color palette, I created several renderings of concepts for their consideration.

We landed on a diptych, which would be easier to ship and install than one large piece. The diptych was designed to be the exact width of the bed once installed. Each panel measured 24″ x 38.” We picked up colors from the other art and responded to the fantastic landscape featured in the corner window. We also selected framing that would echo the other artwork in the room.

Because of the installation location over the bed, the work was over engineered. Each panel is installed with french cleats rated for 300+ pounds. Further the glass is laminated and set with 20+ hidden anchors on each panel. The frame is a floating canvas frame and does not bear any of the weight.

I couldn’t be happier with the result. The silver metallics poke through the composition adding eye-catching sparkle. The texture adds interest and dimension to the space.

To accomplish this, I used several shades of green to create a flow which draws your eye around the rim and into the center. The green is broken with large veins of russet and brought to life with rose copper.

Yellow is a color I have avoided in the past, but I’m a convert. After several tests and experiments, I was able to create a marigold shade of yellow. I love it so much, I’m already using it in other new works.

This is the Sunset Bowl. It is 12″ diameter and now lives in a beautiful home in Texas.

The designer was faced with the restoration and redesign of a 1945 midcentury modern/Frank Lloyd Wright prairie house. His aim was to keep the architecture in keeping with the home’s roots, while creating a modern and flowing interior.

When he came to me to create the centerpiece of the living area, we discussed many concepts. In the end, we settled on the idea of creating a flowing piece that references the neighborhood’s proximity to the Connecticut River and Long Island Sound. We should bronze metallic highlights on the side edges of the triptych to flow into the space that was finished in a color called Natural Linen.

The finished piece is the culmination of two months worth of studio work. The piece is composed of multiple layers of mixed media and mounted glass.

The center piece of the triptych measures 30″ x 30″ and the pieces that flank each side measure 18″wide x 30″ tall.

We discussed several options, and settled on a 12″ shallow bowl that would fit perfectly in her dark wood shelving unit.

The shelving above our wet bar needed an object of art. I wanted something unique and in a medium we didn’t already have throughout the house. I came across Mira’s shop and knew immediately that one of her exquisite glass bowls would make a perfect addition to our home.

I contacted Mira to request a commission. I sent the ideal diameter and color pallet with photos of the intended display location. Mira sent me renderings, I chose one, and she transformed it into a stunning bowl. My experience was enjoyable.

We exchanged frequent messages and I felt like a part of the creative process. Mira’s talent and willingness to work with me yielded a wonderful handmade art treasure.

Over all the sculpture is made with three pieces in separate stands that measures 38″ wide. The clients also opted for a coordinating 16″ diameter vessel for their table top. Both pieces can be seen where they permanently reside in the next image. What a gorgeous space.

This triptych was created for a new Women’s Health Center near Chicago, IL. The work will be prominently displayed in the main floor lobby, right behind the information desk.

This commission took the entire month to create. It consists of mounted reclaimed glass, pigments, and foils.
